Seeing our beloved series receiving love in the media never gets old. So we’re absolutely thrilled to see our friend and longtime Shenmue fan, Matthew Reynolds, share a brand-new article for Eteo Games.
Matthew has written plenty of articles about Shenmue in the past, has featured on our own podcast, and put together an incredible video showcasing the missable scenes in the first Shenmue game. Check it out here if you’re ever trying to get every scene.
His new article, entitled ‘The Indifference of Shenmue’s Schedule’, takes a deep dive into that warm, cosy feeling that Yokosuka evokes, and explores how the slow pace of Ryo’s investigation takes form at the start of the game. Ever since its debut on Dreamcast back in 2000, I have returned to Shenmue every couple of years. The mystery of where to go next may have been long forgotten – I never need the notebook anymore. But even now, I always encounter something new on each playthrough – whether it’s a character I’ve never spoken to previously, or an accessible building I hadn’t quite noticed before.
