In what can only be described as a shocking turn of events, SEGA finally recognised Shenmue turning 25 in North America!
While it seemed all hope was lost during Friday’s stream – SEGA came through very late in the day with the following post:
Since this post went live it has had 448k views, 1.4k retweets, 4.4k likes and nearly 400 comments. Barring one other post in the last 4 weeks, Shenmue has smashed the competition, including Kiwami 3 posts.
While we knew how much Shenmue means to people, it is great to see so many others coming out and saying the same things. Sharing their memories but also asking for more Shenmue games/content. With SEGA’s strategy of expanding IP with niche audiences very much at the forefront currently, surely Shenmue (especially after seeing this response) would be at the top of SEGA’s to do list?!
To see SEGA finally recognise this is vindication for the community. Shenmue deserved this as a minimum. The challenge for the commuity remains, pushing for more Shenmue games! This might be a very small step towards that – but each step we take is a step closer!
Lastly, after ranting about SEGA not posting on Friday, Matt ate some humble pie:
