SEGA has recently been sharing short behind-the-scenes videos of the upcoming Lizardcube developed SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance. The game is shaping up to become another instant classic from the studio! However, during Volume 3 of the video series, SEGA fanatic and fellow Shenmue fan Kori-Maru caught a glimpse of an exciting Easter egg in the background of one of the game’s stages.
This Easter egg is exciting to see, as it’s a clear sign that the Lizardcube team are fans of the Shenmue series! With the game having a future DLC pack called “SEGA Villains Stage“, could it be possible for more Shenmue love with a stage based on Shenmue’s own villain, Lan Di?
As pointed out by Dojo Discord member Flagship, in Lizardcube’s previous SEGA title “Streets of Rage 4” there was a similar easter egg for Shinobi.
Five years later, they are now set to release a brand-new 2D Shinobi title. It’s a long shot, but could the Shenmue reference featured in the new Shinobi game be hinting at a potential future 2D Shenmue title? Perhaps a 2D side-scrolling brawler set in the Shenmue universe, featuring Shenmue characters? We can dream, right?
