Things that annoy you in games

I had the exact same thought. Especially after playing Shenmue I again and watching games that got released recently. It's as if gamers now can't stand to search for anything at all and developers cater to this. Though in a way, it's the developers themselves who created this attitude by making these design choices in the first place. Sure, some older games could be a bit too cryptic but it feels as if they have gone too far in the other direction now. Part of the experience when playing older RPG's or adventure games was exploring the world and by doing that getting immersed.

That's why I never specifically called myself "a gamer".
Ye i worded that wrong. I dont really call myself a gamer. I meant more like i feel ashamed i even indulge in this hobby to begin with.

@GYO6161 It was clear enough actually. I understood the meaning behind your post. I personally don't feel ashamed because of that type of debate. I won't let that affect me being into some great games and series. But I certainly don't feel like associating with them either.

I had to post this. Playing God of War and as much as I am loving the game, it is really starting to piss me off. From the very beginning the games centres around getting to a certain point. Each time you pretty much get there some inconvenience pops up which means you have to fetch this item and come back. It's so annoying and I hate it in video games.

Reach destination. Oh you need this to activate the gate

Finds item and returns

Oh, the gate is destroyed so you need this

Finds item

Oh you now need another item and need to treck back to this and so on.

GameCube games that require four gbas and gba connecting cables just to play their multiplayer.. when plugging in a GameCube controller would work just fine...

And any other similar mechanic that locks out content for no good reason other than to make you buy more crap you don’t need.

I remember that being a thing for a Final Fantasy n Zelda game. Proper loved the Gamecube, but it's shit like this why I ended up not buying many games for it. So yeah, defo agree with you there.

Like the ONE time I got to play Crystal Chronicles with four players, it was a blast! It was just such an hassle to do that it was a solitary experience.

I'm so glad it's finally getting a rerelease without such asinine requirements.

Too many Icons and waypoints on the Screen. I know These waypoints are supposed to help the Player not to get lost, but they have a negative effect on me. They discourage me me to move on in manner of speaking to much in Information at once. I prefer games like Shenmue, where you really have to explore without having much clues. Finding your own way is much more fun, than following waypoints.

Limited interactivity in Action related games. I really do not like games with a inscrutable Environment. Especially when you consider that some games in the 90s and early 00s games were more interactive than some games of the recent years.

Story based games that forget the game part. *cough* Life Is Strange *cough*

Escort quests, usually. Some are done well

Fixed that for you.

And to a lesser but still annoying degree, any mandatory section with completely incongruous gameplay to the main selling point of the game. For example, if I've bought a platform game, then I don't want my progress halted by my inability to win a speedboat race. That's not what I signed up for. If it's really worth including, then either make it optional or expand its visible significance so that people know they're getting a multi-genre platforming and speedboat racing game, and can make their purchasing decisions accordingly.

That happens to me with games that blindside you with difficult stealth sections. Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit sticks in my head as a great example, and it was even followed by an escort quest, IIRC!

I don't inherently mind stealth gameplay, I'm just fairly bad at it and it takes me some time/learning to get into a game's stealth grove.

Unskippable cutscenes and bad controls. Sans-these and I can blissfully waste time with almost anything. As long as the graphics aren't ugly in concept or execution. And the music has to be nice.
