Random Gaming Thoughts

Oh yes, I do. So many classic intro fmvs... Which one made inception in your mind for postín about the topic?
Not Fmv but Im revisiting Day of Tentacle and its pixelart intro with hose animation its really something.

I thought of this subject while playing Dreamcast when you dont press start right away the intro video plays. Games that come to mind: Onimusha 3, DOA 2, Mortal Komat Deadly Alliance and Crazy Taxi just to name a few.

That one broke the ground indeed. It was so different, half music clip half shortfilm. The eerie language it poured was in a higher level than ever before.
For a bunch of kids which used to be afraid of The Edisons in Maniac Mansion, Silent Hill felt like the evil condensed in a disc.

How fun was getting all endings in Tekken 3. And there was really good ones.. Mokujin's my favourite.
Actually I miss the FMV games like X-Files. I believe that unique things could be produced nowadays within this subgenre, even surpassing a traditional ruling 3D game.

Has anyone tried out Soul Hackers 2 yet? I was surprised to see impressions on Steam are actually pretty positive on the gameplay and story. Wondering how my fellow dojo'ers feel about it.

Currently watching Angry Joe rant about Madden 2023. Unfortunately this has been happening for decades and I don't see it ever changing unless gamers boycott the series. I doubt that happens. When EA bought the exclusivity rights for the NFL they basically got rid of all competition. When there's no competition complacency and mediocrity will happen. If NFL 2k was still around I believe EA would be releasing better products but when huge payouts exist in a capitalist society you get what you get. Hope gamers can regain some control.

Secret of Mana's remake looks and plays like a pile of dog poo. Conversely, its sequel Trials of Mana has a worthy remake.

I haven't played the other Mana titles yet, but so far SoM original and ToM original/remake are my favourite games in the Mana series.

Anyone else been playing Xenoblade Chronicles 3? It might be the most emotionally draining game I've ever played. Makes NieR seem like Kirby.

It's great, but fucking hell. Spends 60 hours making me fall in love with its characters and then puts them through hell.

Genuinely made me cry. Good job, game.

I feel like I might like it if I enjoyed the battle system…wasn’t a huge fan of the first game, tolerates it in X because the lore and open world were fun, skipped 2 entirely. If it could either be full action or turn based I’d feel better about buying it.

I finally started Lunar: Silver Story after seeing the extremely high praise Truck101 gave this and the sequel about a month or two ago. I'm pretty impressed so far: interesting and unique battle system, good music, balanced map design and difficulty, cute anime girls (the most important part), and lots of QoL touches here and there that really surprised me. Seriously, the QoL stuff here seems about 20 years ahead of its time. Also, I had to laugh at how fucking evil Ghaleon looks my first time meeting him. Does this count as a spoiler? I don't actually KNOW that he's evil yet, he just... looks really fucking evil.

How about my punching puppet of him? If that doesn't scream, "Evil," I don't know what does!

lol I will say though, while TSS is a great game, without Ghaleon, it wouldn't have been as good; he makes the plot much more engaging and fun/interesting and John Truitt is masterful as his VA.

EB is maybe a touch (and I mean a touch) worse in terms of QoL, but that (IMO) has more to do with the save system relying on coins (which they did away with in the remake) and not so much the gameplay itself; it is much more fun, IMO.

Glad you're enjoying it! Alex is a cool character, but he is overshadowed by Mia, Kyle and Jessica, I feel. Making him a (basically) silent protagonist doesn't help.

Hiro in EB, on the other hand...

As someone who doesn't like turn based rpgs there is one game that has me intrigued Segagaga. Sega should translate and re-release this game the concept is very dope.
I played through it without a translation (but with a Walkthrough) and it is one of the most-fun games I have ever played in my life.

It's not hard either.

2 is the greatest brawler ever made. Still holds up to this day and is an excellent game.

Ninty fanboys have 0 idea that PS2 did what Brawl did, BETTER, almost a decade earlier.

BTW, they did do a compilation re-release on the PSP.

Why did arcade gaming die? I know with the rise of online gaming and consoles getting better that played a role but there was still a place for the arcades. Arcades were more then gaming they were social gathering havens for gamers. Even though I was young and not very good at games these were some of my best gaming moments.

My favorite arcades are: Daytona USA, Tekken 3, Virtua Fighter, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time, Virtua Cop, Terminator, House of the Dead and The Simpsons. Some of my most fondest moments weren't even me playing games but watching others.

My older cousin "Tezzie" was a arcade god. This man would line up and pack out the arcade at any fighting game. Once he got on the sticks it was over. Marvel vs Capcom 1&2, Mortal Kombat 4, Street Fighter vs X-Men, etc. People were chomping at the bit to beat him but they couldn't. I've only seen him lose a hand full of times in the years we frequented arcades. I wish Evo was as established as it is now he could've easily been a gaming pro maybe even won it.

Mortal Kombat 4 had a cool feature for their arcade. You could attack your opponent before the announcer says "Fight." Back then that was some of the coolest shit I'd ever seen. Nkw memories like that are gone but not forgotten.
