Random Gaming Thoughts

I've been looking into reowning childhood retro games but I just don't understand these prices. CIB Turtles In Time is going for $500. Just the cart for Turtles In Time is $55. Why would anyone pay a extra $450.for cardboard and booklets? Buy the cart and buy a custom retro case, Good Grief!

Just finished Last of Us Part 1 on PS5. Fun to revisit this but the lack of abilities and more dispersed nature of the environments from the sequel are missing here. The character models are amazing, especially some of the new designs. I couldn't help but wonder if an alternative timeline existed what AM2 could have delivered with big budget, modern game. A generational leap from those Shenmue passport models.

Synduality is currently the star of the show for me.

This trend of quantic titles are messing with my old brain. Synduality fgs
Hey you all dig Bandai Namco right? I mean like "please stand. Dont sell to Disney". Its a flagship of our Game World Order

I think its pretty funny how this whole Japan samurai setting was pretty much a no go
for any big serious studio / publisher not that long ago
but since Sekiro and Nioh, its like the floodgates are open.

Nioh 2, Ghost of Tsushima, suddenly Sega is like alright alright lets remake Ishin,
Microsoft suddenly pays Koei Tecmo for a day one gamepass game that takes place
in the three kingdoms of china setting, now Sony is doing another Japan setting game with Team Ninja,
Ubisoft suddenly announces a game for their most requested setting - AC Red in feudal Japan,
rumors about Ghost of Tsushima 2 ...
And a lot of this stuff were the best selling games ever made by these studios.

Like all of this happened in a time frame of 5 years and is a big success now.
But 6 years ago this whole setting pretty much didnt exist in the western gaming world
because everyone thought its too risky.
Even the Ryu Ga Gotoku studio devs commented in the live show today
that Sega was not convinced to bring the original Ishin to the west
because they thought that nobody would understand the storyline and that nobody would be interested in it.

And now its completely the opposite.

They're pushing the samurai agenda and ninja biased media

That’s part of why all the doom and gloom thrown around by other console fans always seems hilarious to me, especially in the WiiU days

It's what I've always maintained and it was confirmed when I read Console Wars: Ninty is only around/successful because of their sound business acumen and business practices in the 1980s; their products are largely derivative and mediocre, but due to the nostalgia factor (which they have milked more than any company on the planet, in history, IMO) and the fact that Howard Lincoln is a shrewd businessman and a massive asshole, the company was setup for current success and long-term success, with no worry of being undermined.

They will never go away and they will never stop making money and it is largely due to, "playing the game," and not as much on merit.

Another reason why **** Ninty.

Please Truck, don't say 'acumen' again.

And while your Sega fan fueled hate towards N brings a warm tear to my eye, regarding long gone console/arcade wars, lets put it in gameopolitics: Nintendon't its also the last surviving power from arcade based real consoles days. If Nintendon't falls, the game landscape will pivot around Sony/Microsoft in exclusive. And eventually Google only. We need our old enemy now.
So Sega comeback to hardware again and finally smashing the plumber, ripping apart the kirby etc. roundhouse kickin the pika, supplexing zelda

I think its unfair to say Nintendo products are derivative and mediocre because Nintendo has never tried to lead the way from a technology hardware aspect. Nintendo knows their customer base is primarily made up of nostalgia first party addicts so they play their role. As you stated @Truck_1_0_1_ they have sound business acumen/practices which Sega did not.

If Nintendo tried to match Sony and Microsoft with $500-$600 consoles they would go the way of the dodo like Sega. Nintendo 3rd party support has historically been atrocious further limiting them. I think Nintendo has really figured something out from a hardware perspective with the Switch. They now have a flagship console with AAA games thats portable, so genius. I'm interested to see what they do going forward.

Nintendo has had some failures like Sega: Virtual Boy, N64( great system), Gamecube(great system), and the Wii U but Nintendo was always able to at least stay afloat instead of completely drowning. @Seaman I agree that Sega now needs Nintendo but I have to disagree with the part of Sega coming back to destroy Nintendo. Its because of the fanboy/arcade wars that also hurt Sega in the long run. When Sega was on their last leg and needed consumers to support their products you had a entire market of Nintendo fanboys that wouldn't dare support Sega. Moving forward we have to stop division and support those doing right by the consumers.

Sega was forward thinking, ahead of their time, trailblazers but they lacked brand awareness, brand identity and the weren't in touch with their consumers. When they tried to turn a new leaf with the Dreamcast it was damn near to late. I hope Team Blue can find success again one day and comeback to hardware market, Lord knows we need it.

You're totally right, Bruce. I just play a parody of my former 8-14 years old self and even then it wasn't that serious. Just naming "fighting teams" one break was sega vs Nintendo, next was power rangers, saint seiya, you knew the drill.

I reject any form of fanatism in reality, and coming the gaming industry unarguably the richer the offer the best for all of us.
I have, though, one probably unpopular opinión: more than back to arcade, which I find quite unprobably, a comeback to videogames=Japan/Asia.
Of course not wishing a market so narrow like that of 90s, many gems stuck there, and also lot of good titles made in the west have been possible because the industry core shifting sides. Its just I miss the quirky, acid, gamy japanese titles while a find our titles too attached to realism. And also Im a bit post TGS gloomy. Sorry about the DC destroy gifs btw, I give you my word I thought "I shall warn Not Safe For Bruce" but the head, the #@€ head... man. It was too late though when I was about to edit. I also felt bad for that DC I hope it was corroded or something like that.

Its all good believe me when I was 8-14 I wasn't so open-minded, Nintendo and the plumber bros could do no wrong. If there's on thing the console wars taught us its to stay in your lane. Each hardware manufacturer has a role to play in this gaming medium. Honestly even when the console wars were at there most toxic $hit didn't get real till Sega went out of business. If Sega was still in the hardware business they may have invented the Switch before Nintendo.

Ok, confession: I got into Sega (game gear) azking for Nintendo (Game Boy) because, Spiderman.
I got Columns instead. Learning to deal with frustration and appreciate the luck of finally having my own console unlike other classmates.
My oldman aka "are you controlling it right now?!" Sorry but retro gaming will always remind fond memories about him.
God, I wish you all could've see when I showed him a magazine review of Star Wars Master of Teras Kasii. The dude lost it. He also taught me the "Hideous Nemesis" dramatis personae in beatem Ups, an art that I gift to my friends which they love/hate/fear. Also did it to some random guys at a pub with Tekken 4, this hideous nemesis thing and they freaked out.
Thanks Bruce, very nice triggering.

As someone that does not like turn based rpgs Fire Emblem Engage looks amazing. I may try to force myself to like this but I'll more than likely watch a walkthrough on YouTube.
