General RGG Discussion

I've seen some comparison shots that make the new model look ok, but I'll forever prefer the old model. But of course, I'll be buying this day one :)

I buy it day one as well but have the say the old model looks better.More bad guy like. But cannot complain too much. I am happy that they did not cancel the western release.

Ok, last post on Yakuza 4 (promise!)

Spent the last few days playing it on and off, and managed to hit 100% completion rate, and EX rank with Haruka! (and got all the trophies bar the normal mode and EX Hard mode difficulty trophies, as playing it through on Hard never stacked the Normal trophy...)

Only issue I had on the completion was 4 ball which feels broken in places. The target line is very unreliable in terms of what your aiming at, I'd constantly miss the ball or have it roll off in another direction...
However the rest was fine, even EX Hard Pool (well, the 3 other modes anyway), all the training in 3 certainly paid off! Golf also had issues with UI markers just being inconsistant or flat out wrong, but those are easier to ignore and adjust to. Managed to hit -7 when playing it (2 eagles!)

Kazuya Amon was a bastard as well, hard to hit. Then I watched a walkthrough online that did some badass dash cancelling techniques. Oh well, at least the other three Amon's were actually fairly straight forward!

Not the best game story wise, but definitely a really fun game gameplay wise. Now I'll take a break from the series until June when not only Judgment lands, but also the Japanese PS4 release of Yakuza 5 (which is pretty much my most wanted thing ever that's not Shenmue 3!)

I found the Amons of 4 probably the easiest I have ever encountered, along with 3.

5 was ridiculously difficult, I found and Hokuto ga Gotoku was the best fight I feel, by far, but rather difficult as well; thankfully, it was quite straightforward, but he is just so fast in HGG, I found it quite difficult.

Yeah, Amon's in 4 I think I did in 1 try bar Saejima and Akiyama which took two. And Aki's was only that hard because I couldn't hit him, if I'd even got one more decent combo in he'd have been a push over. Saejima's was just because of the health regen, else he's a pushover as well. The other two were actually pretty balanced. and really fun fights!

5's yeah were harder in places. Though I swear I managed the first two mainly without incident, Shinada's require some of those warning signs (insane damage) and Kiryu's is just the most insane battle of red heat modes! Tiger Drop ahoy!

My favourite Amon's are from the more recent games, HGG especially as it just takes everything I'd been grinding for and then let me put my moves to use. I beat him on hard? mode second try, aced him in the race as well. Superb fun, absolutely loved the fight.

Kiwami 2 is now out on PC. Seen some footage of it running at 60FPS and its wonderful. It'll be a while before I get to play it like that, I need a new PC capable of running it! Still, super happy to see it released.

Meanwhile, its just over a month (1 month and 10 days to be exact) until Yakuza 5 is remastered and released in Japan. Which I'm stupidly hyped for. Listening to the OST for it right now, and its brilliant, better than I remember. Can't wait to jump into that and Judgment next month.

I hope the PS5 will be capable of running locked 30 fps PS4 games in 60 fps.
I know thats not so easy because every developer would need to patch their games again
but i really hope they will do it. The PS5 probably has some kind of super sampling, boost mode, whatever
for PS4 games but that doesnt help if the game is locked at 30 fps.
There are so many good games on consoles that have a (unstable) 30 fps lock,
it would be awesome to see all of them again in 1440p or higher in 60 fps.

I'd love that as well. I'd like to get a new PC for the Yakuza games, but if the games get patched? I'd rather just play them on PS5 then.

I had a gaming Pc since i was 13 and i upgraded every 2 years. As soon as i was 18
i always bought the newest high end Nvidia card so i could play the newest games on ultra settings.
But then a couple years later i simply needed all of that money for different things and then the PS4 was released
with a lot of exclusive (asian) games that i wanted to play. Thats why i "gave up" on Pc gaming.

Today i dont really care anymore about the best and newest graphics, after 30-45 minutes of playing a game,
i dont care anymore about the shadow or water quality.
So i just play on my PS4. But the only thing that i dont like is how the framerate is struggling in almost every game
and even with a 30 fps lock. I dont want to buy a new Pc again or upgrade just to use higher graphic presets.
A PS5 with a full hd 60 fps target (100% stable) for every game (PS4 & 5) would be perfect for me.
Because then i have everything i want.

And we’re just about a month away from the PS4 re-release to the fifth game in Japan. I got the Japanese re-release of 4 when it came out but didn’t get around to playing it until a few weeks ago and once I finish, I can just transition to the fifth game no problem.

As for Amon, the
Amon in Judgment is pretty hard, but easy to figure out once you know how to place your items[/spoilers]

now that we know that Sega was waiting for the Yakuza Kiwami 2 Steam release,
i'm pretty sure they will release Yakuza 3, 4 and 5 on PS4 and Steam simultaneously in the west.
my guess is Yakuza 3 will be coming about one month after Shenmue 3. (September)
thats enough time for Steam users to play Kiwami 2 and PS4 users have three months to play Judge Eyes.

Yeah, on the surface, he's one of the hardest Amons in the series.

But once you figure it out, he becomes one of the easiest (though there's a bit of cheese and unfairness in that fight at times...)

No way is 3 coming so quick. It requires so much new translation, the team are still working on Judgment/just finished Judgment (I'd imagine it should basically be gold now) but your talking about retranslating an entire large game, plus all the stuff that was never translated (10 hostesses and much more). Plus September and beyond are basically dead months for Yakuza over here. It'd be smarter to just wait until January when all the big AAA releases are out of the way and release them there, like what they did with Yakuza 0.

I'm of course basing this off assuming they use the same people to translate the game as they did Judgment. They could technically just get a different team to do the game (like FOTNS). But I really don't want them to do that. FOTNS was ok but I could tell the quality of certain things were not up to the standard of Yakuza translations (a few changes here and there, which is ok for a game like FOTNS but my whole reasoning for wanting 3 retranslated is bringing it up to the standard of the new translations, so that means getting the same team that did the other main games doing it)

i think they are already working on the new translation for a long time.
in 2018 we posted interviews with the SEGA localization team here where they were talking
about the changes in Yakuza 3 and that they are really busy because of all the content.

so its not like they only translated Kiwami 2 and then Judge Eyes, they were already working on the other re releases in 2018.
and i think they went into "silent mode" after Kiwami 2 (PS4) because they already knew
that they want to wait until Kiwami 2 is on Steam before they announce anything else.

so i dont think that they are starting with Yakuza 3 from scratch after Judge Eyes is done,
they already have new translated content for the re releases and were just waiting
so that the PS4 and Steam platform are up to date and Judge Eyes is released.

thats why i believe that starting with Yakuza 3, they will release the PS4 and Steam version simultaneously.
why would they be silent for such a long time and make Yakuza 3 release a big secret?
i think the simultaneously release on both platforms is the reason, so they had to be silent until Kiwami 2 is on Steam.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 came out in August 2018 in the west, so my bet is that Yakuza 3 will be released around that time in 2019.

Eh. I'm still not buying it. Judge Eyes wasn't a translation like any normal Yakuza game. It got two separate English translations not to mention a dub and more Euro translations on top of that. Its the most effort they've put into any Yakuza game yet. I'll believe it when I see it, but I can't see them releasing it soon.

Yes but Judge Eyes was announced in September 2018,
but the localization team of SEGA was already talking about the other Yakuza games before that announcement.

So again, its not like they just completely stopped after Kiwami 2. Why would the english localization team talk about
the changes in Yakuza 3 if they are not working on that title?

And its already clear that the localization team good bigger and bigger because there is no way that the old team
translated all content of Judge Eyes in that time. They worked like two years on Yakuza 5, how would they translate Judge Eyes in 9 months. Judge Eyes is the start of a completely different project size with the english dub and all the other languages.

I believe they already worked on the other Yakuza re releases but the series was put on hold for the public
because they wanted to bring Kiwami 2 on Steam first and concentrate on Judge Eyes.
But they know that the japanese re releases are coming like every 5 months,
so i dont buy that they are just ignoring or forgetting that.

Localisation team for 5 was a different group to the ones that worked with 0 and newer titles. So that's kinda a moot point right there.

As for the rest. I go back to my previous point. I'll believe it when I see it because I'm never an optimist when it comes to this stuff, so while your theory could well be sound, I choose to er on the side of caution until seeing something concrete from Sega themselves.

Personally I see them releasing all the games together, later. But we'll have to just wait and see.

How do I git gud at Virtua Fighter 2? Also I wish this had Space Harrier like 0 (which I bought on PS4 rather than PC unfortunately). I know Space Harrier is in Shenmue HD 1+2, but the digital controls seem messed up there (which I don't remember being an issue in the DC original, but I could be wrong). It's like when trying to play in MAME, where the best you can do is apply digital controls to simulating the analog stick, which in turns mean holding a direction longer = nudging the analog further that direction, which causes the problem of the game still holding that direction for a while even after you've pressed the opposite direction or stopped pressing any direction at all.

Space Harrier was in FOTNS, 6 and 0. Honestly I'm glad its not in Kiwami 2, more room for other games instead of the same 4 over and over! (Virtual On rocks!). But yeah, there's some weird control issues going on with SH on the HD remasters of Shenmue 1 and 2, its way harder to play than in Yakuza and definitely doesn't have as good digital controls as the DC originals.

But back to your main question, I can't tell you how to get good, I can tell you how to cheese the game for the CP requirements. See, Jeff has one move that basically breaks the AI and is super abuseable. Its his butt attack, its something like forward + PKG (punch kick and guard all pressed together). Or forward, forward + PKG. I honestly forget the exact command. But its Jeffs ass attack, so once you get that move down proper just use it over and over. The AI will either not block the move (so you damage them) or block it (forcing them backwards). So either you KO them or get a Ring Out. Works against Dural and everything.
As for pressing all the attack buttons in one go, pause the game and check how the shortcuts are set up, as its usually bound to one of the shoulder buttons (R1 I think?) if your using a pad. So basically you can press forward + R1 or something like that and own the AI easily.

Sorry if the command is wrong, Its been a while since I played VF2 so don't remember the exact command off the top of my head.

Learn Frame Data ;) Nah, seriously, Sarah's a pretty good character to learn with. Some of her moves are pretty killer. She's been my go to ever since playing VF2 in the arcades back in the day.

But if you just want to quickly beat VF2 without too much hassle then Jeffery is probably your best bet. Just spam P+K+G butt stomp type move over and over again if you just want to beat it for the 100% list or what not.

There's also a throw technique where if you get enough distance between you and the AI, the AI will run towards you and you can quickly dash forward and grab them with a throw...it's a little tricky to get the hang of at first but it works 90% of the time.

The AI in VF2 is brutal as all hell though. From the 6th stage onwards, it just becomes absolutely brutal to play against the CPU...but rewarding when you do get it.

Also don't overdo holding block otherwise the AI will just spam throws at you.
