General RGG Discussion

there are already videos of the full western version with english audio and text on Youtube.
i will probably play it with japanese audio but i have to say that the english voices sound pretty good.

oh man, now with all the things happening around Shenmue 3
i'm really glad that Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios are just doing their thing
and there is never anything super negative or doubtful. just good games.
Well, we had that Hamura issue just a few months back. But then they quickly replaced him with a new model/Japanese VA. So things happen but they try to bounce back quick as well (still impressed they managed to make the changes with no delays to the English release!)

Most RGG negativity, is really more opinionated than anything else - so negativity probably isn't the right word for me to use. Some people don't like the Dragon Engine, changes made to Kiwami 2 over normal 2, Ichiban's hair...
Nothing really all that major (well, in my opinion anyway), and they are usually one of the most dependable studios out there.
Still a real pity about this whole Epic business, but I won't complain about that here, I'll just remember that its under 2 weeks until Judgment!

yeah i know what you mean, but Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios is a pretty "easy going" company i think.
they just handle things and thats it. and it doesnt really affect the group of buyers in any negative way.

the replacement of that guy in Judgment was done super fast and we will still receive pretty much the same game.
and of course there are some problems with the dragon engine and some changes in the remakes
but it never reaches the point were clearly everyone is pissed.
some things could be better but even if you detuct some % because of these kind of things, you still have good games.
the characters, the story and the gameplay is never a problem.

Well, cat fighting was a gameplay problem ;) But I agree, the series is very reliable - they are all high quality, generally free of bugs or crashes (only time I can think of is an issue in 3's remaster and that has been patched I think). I've seen people compare them to Assassins Creed in terms of release schedule and how similar they all seem, but having just finished an AC game I couldn't agree, in recent memory I've not played a more buggy and seemingly unfinished game as AC Syndicate felt.

the only thing that can get a little boring for me (if you play all of the titles back to back)
is the city / district. i would love it if they would give us more and different settings.
keep everything else, the characters, the drama, the weird side missions ...

just let us use the taxi or a train to drive to a countryside or extend kamurocho so that you can walk
into completely new parts. i'm totally fine if the classic kamurocho is one part of the game
but please dont make it the only available part. i watched a ton of "real life streamers" on Twitch
and there are SO MANY nice places in Japan, far far away from all the typical huge cities.
i want to see these kind of places in more games.

I forgot this was out this month. I never did get around to finishing the Japanese copy. Figured I would just wait for the English copy and go full broke with the 100% / Platinum.

If they expand Kamurocho, I want fully explorable Kamurocho Hills. Its been years, let me explore it now! I'd love to have Shibuya somewhat explorable as well, other games really make me want to see that in Yakuza. I'm open to other new areas as well, but mainly if they can make another large one with tons to do, one thing 5 suffered with was having less in some cities compared to others.

It has been a slow process but 71 hours in after taking a break and I am up to chapter 14 on Yakuza 0 and loving the storyline. The only thing I am not a huge fan of are the side games, maybe its a learning curve but I been having issues with mahjong. I really enjoyed the way Shenmue introduced side games but at least in zero, it feels like a chore to want to do the minigames and little incentive. I do like the sidequests though and making friends with others.

I definitely will buy kiwami and kiwami 2, hopefully the other Yakuza games come to PC soon.

The game is really coming rather soon. As of Today it is going ot be released next week. Cannot wait to Play it. Have the japanese Version too but did not touch it yet because I wanted to wait for the English release. The only reason I got the japanese Version was just a precaution after I heard about the Piere Takai debacle. In case the game is not being released in the west I got the Japanese Version. Luckily Sega did the right Thing and did not cancel the western release.

I legitimately cannot believe how this game has not been delayed... The team must have been working overtime on this to replace the character model, lip syncing etc... I bought the Japanese version in panic too! :p Still don't regret it really.

I do not regret the purchase of the Japanese Version as well. It is nice add to my Collection and I supporting games like this to get more similar games in future in return is not a bad thing either :p

It’s actually out this Friday if you buy it digitally...which I’m actually kind of flirting with doing.

My debit card just got charged for the Japanese version of Yakuza 5....I completely forgot that was out this week in Japan. Don't know when I will get to it though considering Judgement is also out this week (on PSN at least) and that will take priority. I have played Yakuza 5 before but I am curious to go back and replay it and see if I feel differently about it.

Ive played both Judge Eyes and 5 before, but I'll be playing both together as I just can't pick between the two which I'd rather play first! I cannot wait for 5, 60FPS gameplay with all that content? It'll be in the running for my GOTY for sure!

someone at E3 was able to ask Kazuki Hosokawa, the game director of Yakuza 0 and 5,
about Yakuza 3, 4, 5 on PS4 and 3, 4, 5, 6 and Judgment on PC for the west
and he said that "its better not to say anything at this time" and "there are no concrete plans as of yet..."

i guess the marketing crew for the west is focusing on Judgment right now,
and then we have to wait for Tokyo Game Show next?

My guess is you'll see them next year. Unless Shin Ryu Ga Gotoku gets released in Japan this year (which it probably will considering their annual release schedule) and they plan on doing another Judgement (getting the release windows closer for West and Japan release for Shin Ryu Ga Gotoku)

But I could see the ports getting released early next year. It makes sense not to bring them out close to Judgement. You would want to space it all out a little otherwise you're potentially flooding the market.

I played and beat Yakuza 0. I always heard that Yakuza is the spiritual successor to Shenmue and now I finally see why. This game is literally Shenmue in every way except combat. Shenmue + Beat em up + pervy/funny/gangster = Yakuza. I have put over 100 hours into the game and loved every minute of it. What's crazy is I had more fun doing sidequests than the main storyline. I know Shenmue was here first but I hope Shenmue takes some notes from Yakuza. Shenmue is number 1 on my list but Yakuza is a close 2nd.

The way that Nagoshi has been speaking about Shin recently makes me think that the game is further away than we think, early 2020 as opposed to December 2019. I'm hoping TGS at least gives us a launch window if not a full date along with a story and gameplay vid. The wait is driving me mad! Its between this and Shenmue 3 in terms of most wanted games for this year/next year!
