General RGG Discussion

I know in the past he didn’t rule out a sequel, but we should get one considering that
Taki’s character dies in the first game anyway
. Just hope that no more cast members screw up for everybody. Plus, I think he also mentioned he wouldn’t rule a cross over with Yakuza/Ryu Ga Gotoku

I still want a sequel to Hokuto ga Gotoku, or a Souten Ga Gotoku game. Of course they already have Kenshiro’s Souten no Ken seiyuu in Yakuza as Akiyama.

I know someone suggested a spin off featuring City Hunter, but I’d only get it if Akira Kamiya plays Ryo

Yeah, sequel I don't know if we really NEED one, though the universe could probably use it.

Crossover though? It would be a brilliant and SEAMLESS crossover, with the player controlling Ichiban and Yagami, for the two varying styles of game play and finally, eliminate the need for shoehorning Majima into the story.

Incredibly smart move on RGG Studios' part, for the timing of all this.

I'd say to hold off on anymore spinoffs like that; keep spinoffs in-universe, like with Judge Eyes and then everything can flow and mesh well together, plus it will aid in reusing assets and other-related things, which will make more titles possible as it will keep costs low.

We'll see how they go, as the series is one of Sega's 3 biggest cash cows and they almost have free reign to do what they please.

I'd love a second FOTNS spinoff seeing as they left the door wide open for one. Plenty of baddies still kicking around and a few not even appeared in the game. But I'd like it to get more budget, as the game itself is solid but with padding. But I'll take whatever I can get.

Anyway, started RGG4 on the PS4 last night. I'd forgotten how damn short these chapters are. Scared of racing through the game unintentionally! I've missed Akiyama though, such a nice easy going attitude and awesome fighting style. Also, Hana rocks. Bring back Hana.

Port wise I'm so pleased with how great it turned out. Game looked amazing in HD and running at a silky smooth 60FPS. The first chapter still looks great thanks to those rain effects. Also, the slight stuttering in some cutscenes from the remaster of 3 are now gone, cutscenes are fully 60FPS on the whole (bar the few that are a locked 30FPS).

Otherwise, its Yakuza 4 as I remember it. Well, somewhat. I'd forgotten how much I'd missed the underground areas (just a nice change of atmosphere), currently I'm hunting coin locker keys (yay, radar makes it way easier) and doing Saigo's training (his SMG fight is more insane than I remember it!)
One thing I'm thankful for, is the AI on Hard mode isn't braindead like it is on normal. I'd played the game on Normal years ago and the AI just stood there, these guys actually attack more often and make for just the right difficulty really. Its still easy, but fun easy.

Bring back Hana.

Would love if they brought back Hana, as Aya Hirano is easily one of the best Japanese voice actors, living in the world today; apart from the fact that she nails emotions so well and has quite a broad tone of voice (not gonna outright say, "vocal range," as I haven't really heard enough of her roles to know just how much she can do, though I am aware she voices Dende in Dragonball), her voice is incredibly distinct and it fits every character she's ever done, effectively, "becoming the character."

Sadly, due to the above, her price tag is gargantuan and that was apparently why they didn't bring her back in 5 and beyond, despite the character still existing and interacting with the protagonists.

I've only ever heard her in 4 roles, but of those 4, I've played Yakuza 4, 3 times, Dead Souls, twice, Ishin! 3 times and have watched every episode of Fairy Tail, so I've REALLY heard her characters at length lol; she is absolutely awesome.

And fairly pretty too ;)

Almost done with Pool now, got easy, normal and hard cleared. Hilariously enough it was Hard 4 ball (or whatever its called) that felt hardest. The targeting line was garbage and didn't work most of the time. The other modes I got done in 1-2 tries. Just expert left. Looks like Batting Cages will present quite the challenge to S rank.

Also got a few more Akiyama moves now and am really liking just how he plays. His counter rocks and yeah, enemy AI definitely seems more aggressive than I'm used to in Yakuza which is bizarre. Wonder if it were changed, its quite pleasant really. I really should get on with the story at some point...

As I have not played Jugdment yet I cannot tell if I would be happy about a sequal or not. I can only judge the game (no pun intendend) after I have played it.

For the time being Sega will focus all their energy on the Shin Yakuza game anway. and I really wonder how well the new main character will be written. It will be really hard to replace Kiryu-Chan because this character is just unique.

If they develop this Ichiban guy in a different direction than Kiryu it could be interesting to see the Yakuza World with a completly different character than Kiryu.

But the only Thing I really want is Yakuza game with Majima as the Lead character. Won't happen I guess but it would funny.

Judgment sequel would be ace, I'd be there day 1 since they did such a great job with the first game. Heck, I'd just be up for an Avengers style team up crossover between series (and make it non cannon by all means just to bring Kiryu and characters from the dead back, just for the heck of it). But for now I really look forward to seeing where they take Shin and the main series in general.

While visiting the arcade in Yakuza 4 yesterday I saw this machine:

Mushiking (spelling?) which is what Mesuking in Kiwami is based on. Gotta love the little details on the machine, looks pretty much identical to the actual real life arcade machine, I love little things like this in the series :)

And I really do hope we somehow get the rest of Yakuza on the PS4 as remasters at this point. I know they changed a few things (removed AxA and a couple of side stories in 3, Tanimura and AxA in 4 etc.) but these are such nice remasters that it'd be a shame to not get Dead Souls and Kenzan updated with the same love and care. The games upres really nicely, some of the textures/signs in 4 especially really standout. Really hoping that it'll be the same case with 5 - as that had some nasty texturing in places.

Indeed, Mushiking.

Absolutely love the game in the series and when I went to Joypolis in Tokyo, I sat at the Mushiking cabinet for a good hour (pissing off my wife lol) and had an absolute ball.

Who knew Rock-Paper-Scissors could be so much fun?

Almost done with Akiyama's section now on 4. I've basically forgotten how most of the game goes, the long fight in the underground which ends with the chainsaw battle was great fun (just wish the area was just a bit wider, as most of the time I used (by accident) the wall kick heat move, I do love the revelations moves you get (I made sure to unlock them asap) as it spices up combat a bit. Done the first couple of IF7 battles as well.
Loving the game, just wish the pacing didn't feel quite so... rushed? Feels like the story is pretty short, or maybe that's just because I can't put the game down. Either way, loving it.

Plot is VERY weak in 4, which is too bad because Akiyama and Saejima are absolutely awesome, plus the return of
Hamazaki
is so welcome and well-done.

Tanimura just completely ruins it; the plot ends of focusing on him, the weakest and worst of the 4 characters and his stupid past that they shoehorn into a plot that doesn't need it...

Its a lot like 2 in that regard and this character bogs down the rest of the game.

Yakuza series general director on Ichiban Kasuga game: “I’d like to change the game drastically”

So I thought this was an interesting read and it got me thinking. What would you want to see from a drastic overhaul of Yakuza? Where do you think they could take it after so many games as is.? What would you like to see from a New Yakuza?

I have to admit that even with the change ups, Judge Eyes is really more of the same at it's core. Yeah, they did give it some new blood and it is a good game (from what I played so far) but still I was a bit bummed that at its heart it's just more Yakuza with a new coat of paint.

I do kind of want this series to take a drastic overhaul to some degree. So what could they realistically do to change it up?

Make the city bigger, but not so big you need a car to navigate it (which would ruin it). I really don't know though, Judge Eyes was all I needed, I like the series as is but I'm open to new experiences so I'll just see where they take it. Just as long as it doesn't become another souless open world game like so many others this gen I'll be happy.

To Tanimura's credit though, I love his long fight and boss battle in the docks but yeah the whole Police side of things I seem to recall drag down the plot at points late in the game. He definitely gets the weakest of the four bosses no doubt, Kiryu gets the most hype one.

Oh, and according to Internet chatter, the ERSB just rated Kiwami 2 for the PC. Which is amazing news.

I am not sure if I am going to be happy about the changes or not.Too early to judge it because we do not know anything about the Shin Yakuza game yet. In general it seems to be a necessary step to change game with the change of the lead character. Ichiban seems to be quite different than Kiryu. So it is just natural that the game will also feel different while playing. The only question is how much can you take away from the game until it does not feel like a Yakuza game anywmore.

Dragon Engine at 60FPS would be something pretty incredible.

I was thinking about this. I'd say keep Kamurocho but give us more in Tokyo...don't make it by car travel but make it by trains instead (why not? most people in Tokyo use trains to commute as is). Be cool if the game gave us another district of Tokyo that we could freely travel to. In some ways I feel like Kamurocho is a perfect sized city, it's not too big and has enough to see and do within it, so my thought is it doesn't need to be necessarily bigger...but I think it would be cool to travel to other districts in Tokyo.

For me, from what I did play of Judge Eyes, I really liked the way they were making the city feel a little more alive in the way you could interact with friends and girlfriends...I'd kind of like to see them push that out a bit more.

As far as drastic hauls? After that question, I sat down and thought about it myself and even I'm struggling of thinking of ways they could overhaul it drastically.

I think one of my core problems with Judge Eyes is simply that I wanted it to be something that wasn't Yakuza. As in no fighting system that feels like it's an expansion of Yakuza and finding other ways to make that game. I wanted a fresh new IP from this team and not just a Yakuza game with a new hat. But that's not to shit on the game...I do think it is a good game for what it is, but yeah, I can't help but want that team to make an IP that is brand new (another Binary Domain moment(

But yeah, having thought about my own question, I really don't know what they could do to "drastically overhaul" Shin Yakuza either.

Thing is with Judge Eyes combat, I love the wall attacks and flips. And since I don't see Ichiban being that agile (I see him being somewhere between Kiryu and Saejima really in terms of attacks), I'm glad JE has combat just to give me that different fighting style. But I can see why people would wish for something more separate to Yakuza. I do like the idea of a few more series being tied into the same game world, if only for a big crossover one day, that'd be pretty epic.

As for Kamurocho, I forget if I mentioned it here but I'd love for the Underground mall to return (and be expanded) along with fully exploreable Kamurocho Hills (its surely complete by now...) but good shout on the train idea - I'd absolutely be up for another district or two in Tokyo or the surrounding area (Shibuya would be nice maybe? I just really like the look of the area).

And yeah, imagining the newer games running on PC would be amazing. Definitely something I'll be upgrading my PC for so it can run well.

Don't get me wrong, I actually really do like the combat in Judge Eyes...I love bouncing off of walls and I love the agility Yagami has. That wasn't so much a problem for me...I just think I wanted Judge Eyes to be something else other than just more of the same formula. That to me is the game that should have been something brand new while the stuff they did in Judge Eyes maybe should have been left for Shin Yakuza. But that's my own nitpick...it's not a comment on the quality of the game as I do think the game is very good for what it is.

That sounds pretty cool for Ichiban, but I guess we have to wait and see what they end up doing with it.

I think it'd be pretty cool if they expanded more on the heat actions and having more interaction with the world itself...granted, they have been dabbling their toes into this but I kind of want to see more of that. Those are some of favorite heat moves in Yakuza 6/Kiwami 2 and Judge Eyes (the swing set heat move is awesome, so more of that please)

Also, I think it would be kind of cool story wise to have Ichiban be maybe less noble and have more of an edge...I guess ambiguous is probably the best word. As much as I love Kiryu (he's one of my favorite protags of all time), I do think he is a little too loyal and noble to pull off a harder edged story...I really want to see a Yakuza story about a man who has a little more of a sadistic edge. Think Kakihara (from Ichi the Killer) but maybe not as gleefully sadistic. But enough of an edge to the point where killing for him isn't exactly a big deal.

A little more of a pessimistic outlook...not too overbearing, but enough to give him an edge that Kiryu didn't quite have. It seems like they may be going a little in that direction given his back story, but I guess I want a story that's less about the noble man trying to do right and more about the shady man who is doing what is right for him.

And no, not necessarily another Majima. Or maybe something like Majima but with more an edge about him. But I don't know...maybe it wouldn't work.

I too am surprised that has never returned actually...would be pretty cool if they did bring it back and expand on it a little I guess. I would take that.
