Wrestling

Yeah for Smackdown I was. I was there for RAW the year before when Undertaker and Kane ruined the Wyatts.
I was there that night too, Undertaker has always been my idol, first saw him back in the early 90s right up until now. I’m glad to say I’ve been to 3 wrestlemanias and I’ve witnessed him live!

I caught up on Raw tonight. Just got back from my trip. Brock segments were solid, but another stale show unfortunately.

I need to get to a Wrestlemania. Funds are somewhat lacking at the moment!

I was a big fan in the early 90s, but WWF disappeared from Spanish tv until 2006, then hook up again until CM Punk left WWE, I became a huge fan of him with the 2011 feud with Cena. If Punk come back some day I will probably watch it again.

The summer of punk was class. I can't see him coming back though he really fell out with a lot of people.

Watch NXT that's awesome and has a more indie feel to it.

I went to Wrestlemania 32. It was crazy getting in. Most people missed the opening match. If you go back and watch the preshow, the arena is almost empty. Still a fun time. Warning, though, it kind of drags near the end. We just wanted to go home by the end of it.

I've been catching up with the highlights of the G1 today since I didn't have to go into work at all. Everyone has been correct about Ishi and Ibushi, that was a really fun match. One thing I love about the G1 is the urgency that comes with the matches themselves being 30 minutes at most. Gives a great amount of drama and a different spin on the storytelling, not unlike the Television Title back in the old days.

Also, just to echo some people's talk from earlier on in the thread, I was lucky enough to go to Wrestlemania 33 in Orlando last year and I must admit that it was probably some of the most fun I've had at any event and would definitely recommend it to anybody who is on the fence about going to one. Literally, the only downside is the fact that I lost my phone on the way back to the hotel.

Whom are you favouring for the G1 finals? I see Naito getting there (and winning) but I'm still not sure who'll win Block A

I feel like, the smart money is Naito. I do kind of worry that NJPW seem reluctant to pull the trigger on him being the champion. I think, my money would go on the final being a Naito/Okada rematch where Naito finally gets the better of Okada, getting that win back. Partly because I also believe that they're doing a subtle downward spiral of Okada after losing his belt. Like, he's trying to find an identity that doesn't revolve around being a champion and doesn't quite know how to deal with it just yet. Of course, this is all speculation and I could be totally wrong. At any rate I'm just looking forward to a few more stellar matches. I sincerely hope that they can resist the urge to do another Omega/Okada match but...it does seem to draw in the attention so who knows!

^Why would they be reluctant to pull the trigger on Naito if he was champion already? In hindsight, I think it seems clear his loss at WK was to further cement Okada's reign, reaching 2 years, while also adding another notch to Naito's WK losses. Thing is, a Naito Omega WK main event is great, they definitely have better chemistry than Naito and Okada as their own trilogy of matches has been incredible. But if so, whom would Okada face at WK? White? Jericho? And what about Ibushi, Tanahashi or Suzuki? Every option is on the table

All that being said, Naito has a tough road to get to the final with Sanada (and there's a story brewing there) and ZSJ plus the fact that he can't finish on the same points with Ibushi or Omega (draw coming up? Where would that leave them?)

Sorry, I have to admit that I'm relatively new to...New Japan overall, so in some ways I'm still playing catch up with the history. Good thing youtube is full of dedicated video essay makers to keep me in the loop. I suppose my Naito assumptions were largely based off of the year that he's been having since WK. Up until then it felt a little bit like the sky was the limit and then beyond that point, everything just seemed to slow down to a halt with the guy. But then I understand that unlike another company, NJPW are not afraid of being patient and doing slow builds so I guess I have to keep that in mind overall.

That being said, though. There were some great matches yesterday. Ishi vs Omega really sticking out. Loved how the match progressed from just a showy exhibition with the arrogance of Omega, into an all out battle by the end that left both men looking like a million bucks.

ill be at ALL IN tonight, buddy of mine got damn good seats. expecting neville to show, probably jericho, KO is dream tier and Punk is unrealistic but hopeful. Growing up outside Chicago I would love to see Punk, but god damn that dudes an asshole.

will report back :)

2. Absolutely shocked at the news that Brian Christopher has died, having hanged himself in prison.

I'm a little late to the party, but this one still hurts. My memories of ToO CoOL are right up there with and from the same time as Shenmue. As an awkward, shy high school kid really struggling, the two of them (and later Rikishi) helped me feel better about myself. They were cool, they were fun, and they were loved.

One day, early into their run, I went to a school dance, put on some goggles like Grandmaster and a hat like Scotty, and started mimicking their dances, including the worm. Everyone cheered, and within a few dance nights, the entire gym would stop, form a circle, and cheer me on as I did all the moves Too Cool did. There are only a few other times in life I ever felt legitimately cool, and I owe it all to these guys. The three of them are still my favorite team.

I really wish I had had a chance to thank him in person.
