A Gamer's Journey (Shenmue Documentary) goes to Kickstarter

What better way to enjoy Shenmue day by watching the documentary. Purchased digital copy of Apple TV and just finished it.

First I want to congratulate @Adam0 I know itā€™s been a very long road to get here but I thought overall you did an admirable job. I will say I think you had a really difficult task because thereā€™s so much material to cover, things that need to be set-up and probably a few different narrative pieces which make it challenging to make it feel completely cohesive. Also very much like Shenmue 3 thereā€™s no clear conclusion! Do you end like the documentary on the triumphant funding and return of Shenmue 3 or do you cover the games relative lukewarm reception and the fact series remains in purgatory?

As a fan hearing from some of members of games original development I found most illuminating. I think Suzukiā€™s idiosyncratic way of thinking and not developing in a traditional manner is both a blessing and a curse. I also couldnā€™t concur more with Adamā€™s comment of ā€˜pavlovian responseā€™ to cut scenes as that vividly is etched in my mind from my first playthroughs.

Overall I enjoyed it and I hope others do as well.

Actually Adam, out of curiosity; do you have any footage not used for the film? Is that something you'd be able to share, even if mega rough footage or are there legal reasons why it's not possible? :)

Oh I definitely have some stuff I didn't use. Not sure how interesting it would be. I might dive back in to the stuff shot at YS net and see if I missed a few things. Might do a rough edit of some of that broll some time.

We are a community where no tidbit is too small! If you have the means and the time to share this with us, i'm sure we would gladly appreciate it!! ā¤ļø

Got my copy earlier this week. Feels good to finally have it in my hands! Though it wasn't signed which was part of the perk, but I don't really mind.

Well done to the team!

My copy as arrived! :p

E3 2015 was such a memorable evening and the announcment and feelign for the Shenmue revival will never be forgotten. Looking forward to feeling that again with this Documentary - Thanks to Adam and all involved with making it!

Anyone else in North America still waiting?
There will be a few more in USA that havent got it yet. I'm shipping in alphabetical by first name and just sent out a bunch of N's. Yours may be in that batch but if not then this coming week for sure.

Any update on the last UK batch? Is it still stuck in customs? Itching to watch the special behind the scenes stuff :p

So when would you have sent the E's because I'm still waiting as well.

I just watched this on Amazon. Really awesome job!

I think you did a great job balancing interviews between Shenmue devs, fans, and video game media. It gave a lot of differing perspectives to kind of round out what was so exciting about the game, from the people making the game to those who played it. It also had just enough background of Sega's history leading up to that point, as well as Yu Suzuki's career, that really set-up why it was an innovative game at that point in time.
