A Gamer's Journey (Shenmue Documentary) goes to Kickstarter

The doc is absolutely insane and a credit to the team. Worth every penny and minute of the wait. Well done all.

Great documentary, all those years of waiting have paid off. Thank you so much, Adam and his team and everyone at Definitive Films. Now looking forward to the Bluray/DVD version.

I'll also echo that it'll be great for non-backers to be able to buy a blu-ray. If that seems too difficult to manufacture/distribute, would it be possible to buy a digital version?

Is there any way we could you the tweetathon and other resources to persuade other media outlets to give the documentary a chance? Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, etc.

Wow, I missed that email. I need to watch it Asap!

Damn! I was waiting for this to come out for the public :(

I really feel for Adam and the team. You could tell in a way in his interview with Matt, that the complications and delays with the project along perhaps with some vitriol he had received from backers had kind of soured his love for Shenmue. Or perhaps I am reading too much into this.

I mean, given the unforeseen last two years of pandemic hassles, ya think people would be more reasonable and compassionate to the headaches involved here….but apparently not. I guess people really are just jerks.

literally one of the first replies I saw to that post was “just send me MY blu ray already.” (shakes head)

The other day an update was published regarding the physical version.
It's getting closer

Yea, it's pretty dang close now. Had to invest some cash into the project but it's a labor of love so it is what it is. Before the kickstarter I think I spent like 10K just traveling to different cities to film youtubers, fans, and industry people. Plus the first time I went to Japan to get all that Yokosuka travel footage. It all adds up when you look back but it was totally worth it.

For anyone wondering if they can get a physical copy: The break point for bulk orders is 1000 and I think we have like 750 ish to fulfill give or take so there will be extras. Looking into options for getting it on some streaming services as well like Amazon Prime or the Play Store. That means more legal fees because you need a copywrite lawyer to check and approve you have rights to use all the footage (which we do). Happy to pay whatever that costs because getting it on one of those platforms would be really cool.

Thanks for update Adam. As an outside observer I know this project has probably gone on much longer than desired but I hope once everything is wrapped up and you have time to reflect it doesn’t diminish your love for Shenmue.

If you can get this on a streaming service that would be amazing otherwise I look forward to being able to purchase physical copies to give to others.
