Shenmue Real Locations Chapter 2.5 ~ Kowloon ~ Photo of Kowloon Walled City in 1987 by Ryuji Miyamoto Shenmue Real Locations is a series of posts where I talk about all the Shenmue locations that exist in the real world, even the locations that Yu Suzuki had to cut from the games and locations that we might see in future Shenmue games, such as Baisha, Suzhou, Luoyang, Beijing, and many others. Today I will talk about Kowloon Walled City. Kowloon was a different and unique location that we see in the game Shenmue II in the year 1987, a city that actually existed in the real world. What happened to Kowloon? I will talk about this and many other interesting things about Kowloon in this post. ~ Where is Kowloon? ~ Kowloon Walled...
Ryo's Journey: ~ The Journey to Becoming Akira ~ Ryo’s journey is long and full of wonder, but what exactly does it entail? In this series of posts, I’ll dive deep into Ryo’s Journey and share what I feel Ryo's journey truly represents, what I believe this incredible journey really means within the larger narrative. To begin, I’ll focus on martial arts—one of the most important aspects of Ryo’s journey. Ryo has been training in martial arts since he was a child, with his father, Iwao Hazuki, being his first teacher. In today’s post, I’ll talk about the Chinese martial art style, Bajiquan, and explore how it’s connected to Ryo’s journey. ~ Bajiquan ~ Baji, or Baji Quan...

Body Check and Reverse Body Check are the same move? Since the release of Shenmue III, I've seen many people, even within the Shenmue community, claiming that the Body Check and Reverse Body Check are the same move, with some even presenting it as a fact—almost as if Yu Suzuki had lost his mind. Are the Body Check and Reverse Body Check really the same move? Did Yu Suzuki truly make a mistake by adding the Reverse Body Check in Shenmue III? In this blog post, I'll take a closer look at these questions. ~ Body Check and Reverse Body Check ~ The Body Check and Reverse Body Check are different moves from the Bajiquan fighting style. In the Japanese dub of the game, Master Sun explains that the Body Check is Bajiquan's...
To open the brand new Shenmue Dojo I will talk about the Shenmue anime and the things we can expect to see. I saw the two new trailers of the anime and it is now clear to me that the anime will be a new take on the Shenmue franchise. Yu Suzuki is the executive producer of the anime & he shared many pages of the original material with the anime team, we will probably see scenes that were cut from the original games. An example of this come from a long time ago. Yu Suzuki commented that Ryo's scar is from the last match of the tournament, this is not in the game. We will see this tournament in the anime? From what we saw in the trailers it looks like we will see this tournament in some capacity though how much remains to be seen at...
