General RGG Discussion

I'm gonna play both whenever I can get to it🤣😂. Still playing Yakuza 3.
yakuza 3 is the least popular in the franchise but its one of my fav. Probably because of okinawa and the "slice of life" moment.

I’ve already got Gaiden paid for as an early birthday present to myself. Infinite Wealth, we’ll see if I have the funds but I still haven’t actually finished 7 yet so probably not right away. That being said there’s definitely room for both styles of play imo. Especially to help prove it to dumbasses who have this weird notion turn based games are “outdated”.

idk if you're talking about me, but I don’t have anything against turn-based games in general. However, people have the right to dislike them. There are people like me who bought Yakuza back on the PS2 because it was a beat 'em up. i just hope they will still continue to do brawler game like gaiden and the judgment games

When I first started Yakuza 3 it felt dated compared to 0, Kiwanis 1&2. Yakuza 3 has actually grown on me I really enjoy playing it.

Will you guys buy / play Gaiden and Infinite Wealth on day one?
Or will you skip one because you prefer brawler / rpg over the other
or because they are being released too close to each other?
Day 1, absolutely.

Gaiden I may have to wait on to come in, a week or so, but 8 I've pre-ordered locally, so that'll be a day 1er.

I will probably book the day off, like I did for 'mue III lol

4 is the least popular

I don't think he was lol

Yakuza 4' is not popular either. (It's my least favorite Yakuza game, excluding 'Yakuza 7'). However, 'Yakuza 3' also seems to be more unpopular, as I often see way more people criticizing it." but yeah both are considered the worst one by the fandom

One thing that made my Yakuza 7 playthrough much more enjoyable,
was to activate auto battle in the random street fights.
Just let the game do it for you if you are not interested in fighting right now.

I did all the story fights, elite enemies in the open world etc manually
but when i was on my way from point A to B on the streets, i simply activated auto battle.
Dont have to do anything. Get a real life snack and a drink, watch the fight and move on.
Get your mana back at a restaurant later. Done

But i have to say that i also dont really enjoy fighting 17841 random street enemies in the brawler style games.
Its fine as a game element but i dont really care about it.

real time combat ? lets go

I think its only for this specific part of the game / this island because Ichiban doesnt have a group there
and you can see the button layout at the bottom where it says you have normal attacks and strong attacks
with the baseball bat (both on the same button). Thats it. So its probably very basic combat for simple fights
and to get materials from objects and so on. Its probably not real brawler style combo gameplay.

Here's my two cents on the RPG mechanics of RGG 7 and 8: at first, I thought it was going to be an April Fools joke (in 2019, the RGG Studio had a showcase on that same day), which was in my opinion a little bit over the top, however once I checked out how it actually rolls out, the whole RPG turn-based combat grew big on me. I can personally praise the dudes at RGG Studio for their originality and a completely revamped approach to the series, even though I have yet to grab myself a copy of Like a Dragon 7. The eighth mainline game has me pumped up, just look at all the content it will have! This is basically Final Fantasy, Yakuza, Crazy Taxi, Pokemon, Dragon Quest and even Animal Crossing all inside a massive concoction, which in my honest opinion deserves a hefty amount of accolades.

Pretty sure a lot of us thought it was some sort of April Fools joke at first. When RGG subsequently announced it wasn't a joke and they were completely changing the gameplay I was a bit concerned, but ended up loving the game when I played it.

IMO some of the people who don't like part 7 have trouble separating the more ridiculous aspects of the game from the (mostly) serious nature of the story. The more outlandish aspects have always been part of the franchise, but I guess they were a bit more "compartmentalized" in previous entries.

While I personally feel there still is a very clear distinction between the more comical and serious elements, there are those that disagree. It's a shame when someone falls out of love with a franchise, but people like what they like and I respect that even in cases where I strongly disagree.

That's right. Surrounding all these elements that make 7 as it is, I am also quite sure that another curve to look for are the supernatural elements of the franchise. These elements were in a way crucial in helping the franchise shape in what it looks like today. Again, I'm going off course here, but if we compare the Like a Dragon franchise with Grand Theft Auto, the differences are clearly visible. The former grew on to me not just because of the better storyboards, but also because of the sheer amount of side activities to choose from. In GTA, all your protagonist does is robbing facilities, stealing cars, killing and mugging INNOCENT bystanders and random victims and most importantly: the fans of this franchise can be downright brutal in their personalities.
Like a Dragon however switches between two game modes, disallowing the player to attack anyone that walks by and you end up spoiling yourself with an entire mountain of side activities ranging from UFO catchers and SEGA arcades, to casino games and good ol' karaoke.
If we return to the point of supernatural entities and elements, RGG 7 was the first one that put them in the major spotlight. Ichiban envisions the enemies as those from Dragon Quest and FF: they radically transform their appearances when engaging in battle and they also have the ability to inflict status ailments and effects on your party.
The last thing I want to point out is that I personally cannot wait what the future of the franchise holds for us. Which major gaming franchise will be referenced in the future? The one I'm personally looking forward to would be a cross promo between RGG and Sonic The Hedgehog: imagine Ichiban and his company waking up in the Green Hill Zone, fighting off hordes of Eggman's robotic enemies, then meeting Sonic and his friends where they would have to figure how Ichiban ended up in their universe in the first place. The possibilities are endless.

I already preordered Gaiden and Infinite Wealth at a place not too far from my house. I look forward to both of them.

I always find it unique that the Japanese advertising always emphasizes on the dramatic elements, while the international advertising emphasizes more on the comedic elements. I say they work in their own distinguishing ways.

I wish Infinite Wealth would use Suikoden's or Chrono Trigger's RPG elements because I think their structure and pace work better for the franchise, but the more traditional approach gets the job done. I never had any issue with RGG going RPG because (despite being developed by different internal teams) Sega has a history of making some of the best RPGs ever such as Phantasy Star, Skies of Arcadia, Rent-A-Hero, Sakura Taisen, SEGAGA, and Panzer Dragoon RPG. I knew deep down, they could make it work

I also wish for a sequel to Hokuto Ga Gotoku. This time let it take place during the Ashura Arc, but we conditionally need Kenshiro and Raoh's final battle. I'd love to see Raoh's final moments in a game like that. I know we've talked about RGG Studios adapting City Hunter, and I think Ichi's voice actor would be good for Ryo, but I feel that Akira Kamiya should still play him. However, I can also see Saeko's voice actress as Kaori, and Adachi's as Falcon/Hayato.

Either way, I'm pumped for what the next two installments have to offer.

New RGG Studio interview

Pretty interesting stuff. They dont have multiple teams, only one team
with specific people doing specific tasks (minigames, AI, physics whatever)
for each single game and as soon as they have finished their part, they move on to the next game
where they are going to be responsible for the same thing.
So one big team where a lot of people are jumping between projects.

Like a Dragon 8 (Infinite Wealth) as a project, started before Ishin Remake and Gaiden.
So while working on 8, they simultaneously began and finished the Ishin Remake and then they
worked on Gaiden and 8.

Yokoyama admitted that it can get confusing for the team, for example while recording voices
for Ishin, Gaiden and 8 (they share some of the same cast members)
they sometimes forgot for which game they recorded the lines.

They thought about Gaiden as like a big flashback section in Infinite Wealth
or later as a playable DLC but then they decided that it would be more interesting as a standalone game.

They want to keep releasing games fast and without any delay between the japanese and worldwide version
because they will always use current themes / topics as part of the story
and they are afraid that some of it wont be relevant anymore when theres
too much delay between making the game and releasing the game.

automaton-media:
Nowadays, feedback and fanart from overseas fans is pouring in.

Yokoyama:
Yes, but this is not to say that I am in any way conscious of the overseas market. The staff over at the Sega overseas offices always tell me “Don’t change anything.” For things like adding foreign characters or foreign stages, they tell me not to do it unless it’s absolutely necessary. “Just do things the Yokoyama way, as you have been till now,” I’m told. A lot of people are warning me not to be influenced in weird ways, and I place a high importance on that too.

Sakamoto:
Whatever I’m told by people overseas, I try not to mind too much (laughs).

It's interesting. Three months from now all of RGG's games - that we know of - will have been released. Obviously some patches and potential DLC will follow, but I wonder what's next.

Will it be Judgment 3, the long speculated Virtua Fighter 6 or something else entirely?

Just need clarification on what release will have Enlgish menu's fro the upcomiogn Gaiden Game:

Japanese:

Asian:

I have the Asian version ordered but if the Japanese vesion DOES have English Menus and subs I'd rather that.
