Hi guys, we recently started a podcast show here at the Dojo. Myself and Matt first featured on a Radio SEGA show called The Sega Lounge, as sort of an interview with us about the website, the magazine and our 20th anniversary. Since then we enjoyed recording it so much that we decided to step our toes into the Podcasting realm. We provided a pilot show as part of Radio SEGA's WinterFest event 2020, and people seemed to enjoy it! We were also asked to return for an end of year SEGA Quiz which was a lot of fun too. So already we have a small body of work in this department!

Along with Matt's Interviews with some of Shenmue biggest names, we have formed a show that you can subscribe to on your favourite podcast platform. If for some reason you cannot find the show on the platform you use, let us know and we can fix that!

We are currently available on Apple and Google Podcasts, Spotify, Breaker, amongst other platforms.

If you are interested to discover the show, you can check out our page over on Anchor: https://anchor.fm/shenmue-dojo

We would really appreciate it if you could subscribe and leave a review on your platform of choice, that would be fantastic :)

Here is a list of all the shows so far:

Really enjoyed the output of you both. Loved the deep dive looking back at the KS campaign, the highs and lows and everything in between.

Keep up the great work.

Welcome back to the Shenmue Dojo Show! In this episode we take a deep dive into Shenmue 3's Bailu Village area, discussing the whole of the story for this half of the game. We used two online guides to aid in our discussion (https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/168657-shenmue-iii/faqs/78106/walkthrough-bailu-village / https://video-game-guide-walkthrough.supersoluce.com/solution/shenmue-iii-guide-walkthrough/).
We really hope you enjoy this style of episode, if you are reading this and did, please let us know as next episode we were planning to continue and move into Niaowu!

I am loving these long form discussions. I also really enjoy when you veer off topic and enjoyed your discussion on wardrobe and garments worn in Shenmue 2 and speculated why and how those changes were made. I am looking forward to your Niaowu discussion!

ps. Also how come I’ve never heard of Joe Kitchen before? His videos are absolutely mind blowing and every Shenmue fan needs to check out and subscribe to his channel. I had to hunt it down so be great if you include a link in the YouTube description.

Oh man! You’re right, completely forgot to link the music used! Thanks for the feedback 😊, glad you liked the slightly off topic parts!

Glad you're enjoying these. It felt quite fitting to include some Shenmue fan music and their set-up is fantastic. Their work along with Richard Cartlidge's work could easily fit into a new Shenmue game.

The off topic parts are really good fun, glad you're enjoying them. We've got the Niawou one to do, which will bring up some interesting points, plus the topic I opened the other day will be a future episode.

We're having good fun recording these as well and James does a fantastic job with the editing. I can sympathise with the time it takes to put those together.

That video is like a fever dream.

Fantastic work guys and great discussion. I wasn’t even aware of this timeline but as you were going through various entries like you guys mentioned, with the benefit of hindsight you could tell how the campaign started getting more and more momentum. Suzuki announcing the KS was not out of the blue but really the product of sustained campaign by the fans and a lot of manoeuvring behind the scenes.

I will readily admit to being a lapsed Shenmue fan until the E3 announcement as I remember the forums being a ghost town in mid 2010-2011 with hope for Shenmue 3 at an all time low. It was amazing hearing all the hard work, perseverance, constant campaigning that made this a reality. I guess my mind goes to what lessons can we take from this timeline and help apply them to trying to get Shenmue 4 announced? I understand we are in a different environment and time now but with its mythical status somewhat diminished and actual products to be released in the anime, I can’t help by wonder.

Also is there any intention of updating this timeline? Could be extremely useful if in the future Shenmue 4 is announced and we can look back at the chain of events.

I have to say it reminded me about a tonne of stuff I'd forgotten over the years. That timeline is a great asset to the Shenmue community.

Ideally speaking, yes we would want to keep it going. We're lucky that the TeamYu page is under our hosting so we can look at adding to it.

What we'd want to do, ideally, is bring it over to the Dojo and then continue it. We're looking at the options currently.

Join James, Matt and Peter for an extensive chat about the prospects of a Shenmue 4.
In this episode we discuss Shenmue The Animation, give our reviews of Shenmue 3, and relate our thoughts into a conversation about Shenmue 4. To round off the show we cover the latest Shenmue news inside and outside of the community, and end with a fun Shenmue quiz, coined "The Shenmue Dojo Challenge".

Please give us your thoughts and feedback on this episode wherever you please, be it on Twitter, the Forums, or any of our contact options - we'd love to know what you thought!

Great episode as usual.

As someone that watched a chunk of @Peter original playthrough it was really heartening to hear your second playthrough really allowed you to soak up and appreciate Shenmue 3. I think I have mentioned this before but as someone who until this day feels the QTE’s are broken in 3 and that failed the majority of them, I got a perverse pleasure watching you fail equally as bad, although I must admit I probably shook my head and swore a little more.

Regarding your discussion of a prospective Shenmue 4, I really hope Ryan and other advisors also temper Suzuki’s vision and get him to retain UE4 or at worst UE5 as it will be compatible. The fact they have an established pipeline and animations and assets developed, has to be a more attractive option to a publisher, than the idea they are going back to square one and creating this again. Its going to be a balancing act of what Suzuki pitches and promises and how close he sticks to the tenants of the series. Let’s hope he can succeed.

Also @James Brown we didn’t get your score of Shenmue 3 ;)

Great episode guys, and thanks for the mention 😀 I completely agree with @spud1897 and @Peter about S4- the existing S3 engine should be used and improved upon, it would be insanity to start from scratch again when it’s not necessary
Cheers man. Glad you liked the episode.

It seems simple to me to improve on what is already there. Makes no sense to waste resources on starting again. They have the potential to really go in on the story here, all being well. If they do I'm extremely confident in a cracking 4th game should it come.

Hopefully someone sees/hears the discussion :)

Shenmue Dojo Show: Episode 7 - Anime Anticipation

In this episode, James and Matt do a deep dive into the recent Shenmue the Animation Panel and Trailer. We break down the trailer frame by frame and also discuss everything that we learnt from the panel with Yu Suzuki, Chikara Sakurai, Yu Kiyozono and Joseph Chou.

Please give us your thoughts and feedback on this episode wherever you please, be it on Twitter, the Forums, or any of our contact options - we'd love to know what you thought!
