Random Shenmue Thoughts

I mentioned this in the discord earlier, but I think it's a huge shame. That said, i'm willing to be a hypocrite and say that if it's some kind of faustian deal to get Shenmue IV made, then so be it. I have zero interest in this though. I'm sorry, I just don't get NFT's at all.

It has nothing to do with ys net, so I doubt they'd somehow use this to fund 4.

i'm personally very disappointed in him. i thought he was too intelligent to invest in something as stupid as NFTs, but i guess nobody's perfect. not to be negative, but i really hope the project fails.

He's not invested, they're paying him.

I'm not behind this at all but it looks like a side project with zero ties to YSNET or Shenmue.

The man must do what he has to do... to fund Shenmue 4.

Didn't even realise NFTs were a thing any more. Thought they were all the rage for a few months, then the hype dried up and the interest plummeted, kind of like what happened to Fall Guys and Tiger King.

For those in the know, what is their status as the moment?

I’m reminded of that Salt Bae tosser and his gold-covered steak. Yes, the guy comes across as an utter twat, but one can’t help but admire the way he totally shakes down the biggest wankers and hypocrites in society for millions upon millions of pounds.

Yu Suzuki’s involvement in this NFT thing may make him look like a bellend. As I’ve said elsewhere, I think NFTs are naff, ridiculous and pointless at best. But if it means Yu-san makes a load of money off people we don’t care for – and that money can potentially go towards Shenmue – I’m happy to accept it.

The project will fail but he will still have made some money from it. Win-win.

Everytime a new technology breaks in, it takes sometime to root. It may even "fail", mostly misused and then take the world by storm (Hi, QR Codes).
Personally I believe NFT and in extension blockchain are sitting at that stage.
I believe it also aims for a generation which is more used to, for example, spending 200€ in a player skin.
The first GUIs where ugly as hell and we are at the Gates of Windows 12 (haaaa made joke).
And I remember people opossing Windows really hard, in favor of DOS (circa 98!)..
Blockchain means more than just speculation but it will take time to get there.. human nature is greedy.

I had a Dreamcast magazine back in the day and in it was a preview of Shenmue II coming to the US DC either that summer or next.

Does anyone else remember this? Unfortunately the magazine has been lost through my many times of moving over the years.

Hi all, so this is - I believe - the final batch of Shenmue related stuff I could find in my old gaming magazines; this time from Edge. I'm missing a lot of issues (and it appears it is mentioned in issues #xxx which I don't have), but I hope you enjoy! I think I might sell a lot of these magazines now as I need the room, but i'm glad i've had the opportunity to document them for this website and to prove that there was a lot of genuine love (and bafflement) for Shenmue back in the day. If people say nobody cared about Shenmue, then my hope that these prove otherwise.

As a bonus, i've added some non-Shenmue Yu Suzuki related stuff.

Please enjoy :)

Thank you very much for arranging, scanning and enhancing the images for us. The final batch.. It has to come sometime :( It gave me a lot of memories and thoughts, but only naming a couple to not step in other fellows observations.
Here:
That Yu-san quotation about Naomi. Double edge blade to say that. While it was completely true, I find it unfortunate to use as a way to sell F355 Challenge.
Context: Critical moment with PS2 charging like a bull, Sega costumers at the blink of being -again- owners of the system that didn't... Sega had to be bold talking about their arcade front and state they had a very powerful hardware still ruling there. But if I readed that quotation back then it would felt that I had a more dated system than initially thought (I mean Dreamcast).
Funny how vg magazines arrogant tics repeated over worldwide editions despite being made by different teams.
"Arcade gameplay is out, embrace simulation... Evolve" bunch of Randy Marsh.
Here in my country, the day journalists learned the concept "aliasing" oh god what a pain every month.
Thanks again bc.

Worry not! I have over 200 issues of Retro Gamer still to do (I forgot about that as I put them all in a cupboard), although due to the nature of the magazine, it'll take a long time for me to do. The rest weren't so bad as I concentrated on 1998 - 2002, whereas Retro Gamer covers over 45 years of games each month!

A video popped up in my feed from "Watched Walker," a YouTuber who records first-person perspective videos of walks around streets at various times of the day. The thumbnail immediately caught my attention:
