Random Shenmue III Thoughts

As much as I love Virtua Fighter and that was one of the reason I felt in love in first place with Shenmue, if Shenmue III is going to be more accesible it need at least be a little bit complex, something deeper than Yakuza, something that challenges you to learn more stuff and use it, even when the casual player can beat enemies easily. The last thing I want right now is a button smasher combat system.
Completly agree with that. One of the cool things about a good game is to be a good challenge.

I wonder if they will make any 4th wall breaking reference to how long Ryo & Shenhua have been stuck in the cave?
Im thinking something like a message carved in the cave...

Panzer Dragoon Saga had a couple 'jokes' and the game maintained a somber feel throughout. They'll pull it off. I'm sure of it. SaM_4000, that's exactly how I envision a referential joke would play in the world of Shenmue III.

As far as combat is concerned, I have faith the pioneer of 3D fighting games will deliver.

yeah... The only concern one might have at this point is about the maps scale.... Cities could be much smaller than in previous games making the game to be much smaller in scope also. But if the game is really well done, with a good fight engine, good qte's, action scenes and mini-games, it will undoublty be overlooked. Its understandable once you get to know the games budget.
Hope the media gets that.
But none of us know the budget. That's the issue. Tons of speculation, but nobody knows. Deep Silver could've out forth $10 or $10 million, nobody really knows.

It's not really an 'issue,' in my mind. It's actually none of our business. :)

True. I only meant it's an issue since everyone keeps saying it will be AAA or will not be AAA or will be bigger than x game or smaller than x game. Annoying. We don't know, so why are making baseless assumptions based on extremely limited information?

Check out this thread to ease any potential worries, https://www.shenmuedojo.com/forum/i...ii-all-the-facts-and-information-thus-far.41/. Regarding map sizes and I'll put this in spoiler tabs to be super cautious but Yu Suzuki has said...
it will be "even richer" than the series' previous entries. Choubu, on its own, has been greatly expanded, by at least five times its originally planned size.

I take this as both in size and detail which is going to be fantastic.

Yu said Choubu will have about 200 NPCs, which would put it around the size of Wan Chai or so IIRC.

Just like how GTAV and MGSV have apps for tablets and smartphones, I think the Shenmue III should have one. You can use it to see what moves you have, your diary, and a map.

Hell, as a modern update to the passport, I think an app would be perfect

How do you think they will address the fact that Ryo was in a cave for 18 years?
Maybe they will hit up the plastic surgeon in a near by village and make a comment like "Ryo, your face looks so different. Its like its some type of high definition."

I'm wondering if that thing in the bottom left corner of the combat pic is a potion or a type of food/energy drink. Would be cool of we could buy health items in the games markets.

I'm hoping it's actually an item you can use, (optional) as a weapon instead but most people seem to think it's some kind of of power up.

Some Power ups are weapons though. :p

Like if they increase how much damage you do it is the exact same end result as if you're hitting someone with a chair or something.

Cinematically it's not... which is why I hope It's an actual weapon rather than a "boost", but it's ok either way. I'm not worried about this game :)

If this is something like an alcoholic beverage,
maybe it could be used in combination with the brasero to knock opponent ?
However this would be something I don't see Ryo doing.

Something I have been seriously thinking is that it could be an "item to protect".
With the fact that, if you take some kind of damage, it is deteriorated.

But, whatever the bottle's purpose
this means there is some item interaction, in battle.

On another note, wasn't this move the one shenhua was shown using
to defend herself, in the project Berkley video/early promotional materials for shenmue ?

Ehhh... I'd rather that Ryo stick to just using his Martial arts without any physical weapons. I am alright if it is Ren who uses them though.

Just weapons have the potential to get a bit silly and would invite even more comparisons to Yakuza, which isn't something Shenmue needs.

There will definitely be sword fighting at some point, presumably with the Sword of Seven Stars. I remember reading an interview with Suzuki where he said one of the motivations for moving Shenmue from Saturn to Dreamcast was because he didn't think the Saturn could pull off the sword fighting he wanted.

I guess we'll see when the game(s) come out, but I think he was talking about the Iwao sword fighting flashback. I think the interview was with Tak Hirai, if I remember correctly.

Do we know if the game camera will still be directly behind Ryo so he is in the middle of the screen? and not that awful floating over the shoulder camera.
