Random Shenmue III Thoughts

I was just playing Spider-Man 2. It's so insane the amount of top tier quality action and set pieces the game has.

Yu Suzuki said that it's important that a game properly staggers out it's action sequences but Spider-Man 2 is balls to the wall action every second so I don't know Shenmue 3 just seems rather quaint in comparison.

It got me thinking I wish I could take just 1 or 2 of those type of quality action scenes from Spiderman 2 and put them in Shenmue 3.

I know Spider-Man 2 had like 10x the budget but still I feel the "big moment" for Shenmue 3 is the end with the fire but even just 1 of the probably hundreds of cutscenes Spiderman 2 has outclasses it.

It would be so amazing if Yu Suzuki had been given $200 million for Shenmue 3.

I was just thinking there was sort of a video game food fad in the mid 2000s with Snake Eater and San Andreas and Shenmue 3 was supposed to come out in the mid 2000s.

Maybe that’s the reason why the food system is so emphasized in S3?

Yu doesn't play games so he wouldn't have known or been influenced by that.
He was always interested in having a food/stamina system from the early days of Shenmue, if I remember correctly.

I'm sure there was a magazine article stating that from way back?

The problem with food in games is that you can’t actually taste the food so there’s no point. Why can’t YS make a game where you can literally taste the food? Then people would stop scarfing garlics because it would taste bad.

Not sure I like her new bald look but at least she ditched the banana suit.

The original camera in S3 is fine you can just tilt the camera slightly to see Ryos shoes.

While I was waiting for the 1.9 release for Dreams of Saturn, I tried my luck with Shenmue 3 Mods. Looks amazing with this dreamcast vibes:

I have a personal thought / memory about Shenmue 3, I want to share:

It was back in Juni 2019. I applied for a job as a video game journalist at an important German videogames magazine. The job interview went very well - the lead editor loved me and told me that she wants me. But they gave the job to an Xbox-Fanboy (no hate against Xbox - but it is true) which was a bit better connected.

So, a few weeks after Shenmue 3 was released the magazine released the Shenmue 3 review. It was not written by the guy who applied for the same job. It was written by strange unfriendly guy (at least that was my impression when I met him during my interview). In short: He gave the review score 5/10 and criticized a lot of bullshit. I was very unhappy that I was not hired by the company. Right now, I'm glad that I was not hired but as I was reading the review, I was bleeding inside. I hope you Shenmue-fans can feel me! :D

Prolly an outcast here for not loving Shenmue 3 that much. But recently played Shenmue 1 again and immediately remembered why I fell in love with it so much. The music in Shenmue 1 is what I still really love so much. the many small places you can enter, that feeling like you really live there. I always wanted to live in Yokosuka, but Hong Kong or Guilin were never that appealing to me. In Yokosuka I always felt like home. Like I'd just go to the candy store, to the convenience store and such places. Gonna have to download some sakuragaoka tracks and put them on my cars mp3 stick.
