Random Gaming Thoughts

You always ask the hardest questions. :D I didn't know about the canceled sequel until now. I learn it from you.

The period 2004-2006 was too crowded with hits. Some of the greatest games of all time were released. If Rise to Honor 2 had come out in 2006, it probably still wouldn't have made much of an impact. I don't remember much of the plot, but the game was very well made, with a big budget, very nice graphics, cutscenes, gameplay, cool characters... The controls and gameplay tried to be more casual to catch a larger audience. I have no explanation why it didn't become a hit. Maybe just bad timing?

The young generation nowadays doesn't understand the appeal of a game with Jet lee in the title. They grew up in a time without big movie stars. Especially those who practice martial arts like Jet Li.

The game cost a lot of money and most likely did not make it back. I doubt Sony will do a remake. Jet Li is a great dude. I'm sure he'll want to take part in Rise to Honor 2. The fate of Rise to Honor 2 is a bit like Shenmue 4, aren't we all lucky?
Thank you i appreciate ur reply yes the game definitely deserved more recognition & it would be cool if we see a jet li rise to honor 2 , i remember jet li saying in behind of the scenes video that he would like to do it again like when he’s like 60 where he can’t do the same movements but the computer captures his liberty you check the video out on youtube but other than that there’s nothing no push jet li is cool i’m sure he still cares about martial arts i wonder if he contacts them or pushes hard to make a sequel or remake would they do it🤔

I played it on a real saturn with burned discs. The problem was that the game crashed right at the final cutscenes after the final boss. Don't know if it was some protection or my copy was bad. I had to watch the finale on youtube. Great ending by the way. :)
In any case, don't spend so much money on a game you don't know you'll even like. We're talking about over 1000$ here. There will never be a remaster of the original version because they lost the code. They might do something with reverse engineering though or remake.
I absolutely do not have the money to spend on the game in any case… I think I’d stretch to £100 but good god - PDS is mega money.

Pardon me if this is a daft question, but can you just chuck burned discs into the Saturn as if they’re normal games or do you have to do some mod/cartridge business?

Odd to think about but there's nothing on my radar for gaming for the foreseeable future. Nothing that has even a tentative release window. Everything is so far out that I wouldn't be surprised if they become PS6 titles.

PS5 truly is the best PS4. It doesn't feel like it's its own generation.

Only games I’m looking forward to in particular right now are Paper Mario 2 remaster and Stellar Blade, and the latter doesn’t have a PC release date yet as far as I know.

Stellar blade is a game worth getting excited about. :) I recommend Unicorn Overlord and Eiyuden Chronicles (april) too.

You can swap disks. First you need to tape a plastic part of the disc drive door. It's very easy, but better buy cart for 20 bucks from aliexpress. Some people are afraid to take the disk out while spining... With the card you just play the burned disk without doing other things.

I'm waiting to get a chance at the demo. Seems like it plays like the PS2 days of God of War with lots more T&A... which... as a guy... I'm perfectly fine with. Just wanting to make sure the gameplay isn't stale.

FF7 Rebirth, Helldivers 2 and A Plague Tale 2 are the only gen specific games that interested me on PS5 thus far. Everything else I've purchased can be played on PS4 or earlier gens (Jurassic Park collection). That's after 3.5 years on the market and owning one since launch.

I'm overwhelmed by the number of great games coming out. I'm still playing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the new Shiren the Wanderer, I haven't even started Persona 3 Reload, Granblue Fantasy or Unicorn Overlord!

Plus in the next couple of months we've got:

Radirgy 2
Dragon's Dogma 2
The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes
Sand Land

There just isn't enough time to play all them all!

Thanks - I’ll take a look at the cart things, think I’d be paranoid about breaking the console messing with spinning discs.

Very curious about Eiyudin Chronicle as well, although I couldn’t really get into Rising, but I’ve only played it briefly.

I 100%ed Rising, but I get why you wouldn't have been too excited about it. I really only found it to be just okay. It made more sense to me (and I was a bit relieved) once I finished it and saw from the credits that basically none of the Eiyuden staff really worked on Rising. It was almost entirely outsourced to Natsume.

The backer beta for the main game is out now. I've only played about an hour of it so far, but it feels pretty good from the little bit I have played. I'm sort of doubtful that I'll end up liking Eiyuden as much as Suikoden 1-3, for a variety of kinda esoteric reasons, but it seems to hit a lot of stuff pretty dead on. The graphical style and presentation are very nice.

I actually have an extra steam key for the backer beta. I could send it to you if you'd like it.

Thanks for the kind offer - I don’t have steam or a PC at all though, but appreciate you asking.

I’ll probably give Rising another go, my first impression it was just a bit meh, soundtrack a bit nothing-y. Definitely plan to try the main game at some point, when though I have no idea - I don’t get a great deal of time to play games at the minute, just finished Shenmue again, so 2 next, then 3, then I guess I should give TOTK another go, as I dropped it about 12 months ago, first time I’ve not been into a Zelda game. Probably 2 years worth of games there for me.

I would love to try the beta if you still have a code. :)

Im only for Little Nightmares 3. The gameplay trailer left me some doubts about Namco nailing the series mood without Tarsier Studios in development, tho. But still curious as the previous games were awesome.

On spot. And morever, its ugly af.

Ah, np.

Yeah, I was really not impressed by the presentation in Rising initially, either. The gameplay loop is also very rote, and it does very little on the story side. On the plus side, the action gameplay feels fairly good, and can be pretty fun, but it's also not all that diverse. I did enjoy the main characters, though. What was kind of odd to me is I was seeing a lot of praise for Rising in various places online. Was not expecting that, not that I'd say it's a bad game, either.

I would love to try the beta if you still have a code. :)
Should be sitting in your messages. Enjoy! (If it says it's claimed, then I probably gave you the wrong one. Just let me know if it does.)

Why do so few games have the instant start feature on the PS5?

Probably the most next gen feature for me is being able to hop straight into a game without any introduction logos etc. I've only seen this work well with two games: Final Fantasy 7 remake and Astro Play Room.

Both games you can just press square and you'll go straight into your last save or jump into a level or challenge of your choosing without seeing any logos or menus.

I think Miles Morales also has this feature, but it's hit and miss. Sometimes you're taken directly into the game, other times you come across the load screen and menu.

If I was Sony, I would have at least made this mandatory for first party games.

I was a huge gamer almost all my childhood since a young age after 2019 I took a 6 months break from gaming i just didn’t feel like playing i completed shenmue 3 & jedi fallen order at the same time i used to go back and forth between the 2, after that while break i played & beat final fantasy 7 remake, then i bought ghost of tsushima looking to play more games but right after i purchased it i still didn’t have that gaming feel so i left gaming still followed on the news tho i left & didn’t play for 2 years & half finally came back & beat ghost & jedi survivor also back to back i was finally into games playing hours each day then rebirth came out & i’m now even more into games i beat it then was looking forward to the battlefront collection but that was fucked, so now i downloaded PCSX2 (the best ps2 emulator) and i also downloaded xenia (xbox 360 emulator) i have around 10 games I wanna complete that i never did, now i haven’t got the 360 emulator running cause of issues tried gta 4 it was freezing gotta fix the settings, i just wanted to say despite me being into games again i don’t have that hype anymore of waiting for a game or a particular release I just start getting excited the week before it comes out & when it does i play the shit out of it & beat it quick, the only games that can get be hyped is a la noire 2 and a shenmue 4&5 my taste or desire for gaming has 100% decreased and i don’t think it will ever come back just wanted to share my thoughts & i wanted to ask this how do u feel about gaming as you as a person now tell me how it’s changed or if it hasn’t tell me why

I've been there for most of the PS5 generation. They either aren't making games all that often that I'm interested in or the games in production have such long development times anymore, that they probably won't release this generation. What has been announced that I am looking forward to?

- Mass Effect 5 (2026 at the earliest)
- Tomb Raider PS5 (possibly canned from layoffs?)
- Instinction (supposedly a 2025 release after massive delay)

There's a couple that have released that I'd be interested in playing, but not at $70 and surely not at the digital only space; Baulder's Gate 3 and Dragon Dogma 2.

Favorite series I'd love to see announced:
- Shenmue 4
- Uncharted continuation
- Resident Evil 3rd person action

The gaming industry as a whole, is dying. Not just in content but in general. Over the last three months alone, thousands have lost their jobs in the industry. Dozens of games have been cancelled. Smaller studios aren't able to make it in general, making GaaS the majority of releases as publishers demand increased returns in a world economy where most gamers don't have the income to support their favorite games anyway.

Now, to put things in perspective. Gaming is a luxury. We lived through a golden era as kids where the western world was mostly stable thanks to those that fought for our freedoms and way of life. All of it. Everything you've known... is being systematically destroyed by the elites and their pawns. It doesn't matter what country you're in, you're world will be changing for the worse as the elites mean to control everything and rip any rights you believed in, away from you.

Things will be getting far far worse than you can imagine. It's a good thing your attention and funds are leaving gaming. Put the funds to good use and prepare. Get some extra supplies... water, food, medical. I honestly expect we have less than a year and that I'll be lucky to be alive on this day in 2026 as I will sacrifice myself to save my family. I sincerly hope I'm wrong and I can post here then.

I think the problem with gaming comes from the fact that companies have learned to buy the data that google/Microsoft and others collect from us. From this data, they think they have the formula for the ultimate games that everyone will love. Thus they only reap without sowing for the future. At some point, people get fed up. It's normal for games to become sterile when companies make them all the same.

More and more genres are being mixed with the idea of attracting more people. Final Fantasy 16 became character action game, not RPG. Action games become "action games" with RPG elements.

In my opinion, future games will start to take risks again and will become more interesting for us. Console generations will disappear and the need for big graphical leaps will diminish. Budgets will become more normal. AI assistance will be used to reduce costs.

If gaming gets boring, it's a good idea to not just focus on gaming as entertainment. It is also good to read a book, watch a movie/TV series/sports. Also physical work, training... Only gaming is never a good idea.

I’ve very little interest in anything current game-wise, completely limited to:

- waiting for anything Shenmue related

- curious about Eiyudin Chronicle

- Suikoden remasters - all gone quiet on that front, and suspect they’ll ruin it for me if they do happen.

- Zelda, I suppose. TOTK couldn’t hold my interest for long though, despite some absolutely great bits, I’ll go back to it at some point, but, shrug.

- FF7 Remake, at some point I want to give it a go.

Apart from that I don’t follow gaming at all. I enjoy playing old stuff - PS2 and (mostly) earlier, but don’t get a great deal of time for it nowadays.

My xbox live subscription ended and decided to end my 10 years with GTAO and sold my copy of the disc at Cex. Going to finish my S1/2 save file then maybe buy VF5 then wait for all the new Sega stuff to come. I play the classic championship mode on F12020as it reminds my of Ayrton Sennas Super Monaco GP2
