A healthy list of improvements! Hopefully they'll get round to sorting the slightly off sounding music in Shenmue II soon, but I'm glad to see essential stuff like softlocks and cutscene glitches fixed.

I hope this patch fully addresses the cutscene glitches, that one is the worst problem of the game.

I only encountered those on Shenmue 1, Shenmue II biggest problem was weird audio emulation problems.

Looks like they mixed patch 1 and 2 fixes together as some of these fixes were already in the first patch. Makes sense since it's still beta. But good patch. Hopefully they can get a stamp of approval and push this to consoles as they've gone long enough without any fixes...

....although considering how often PC users get the short end of the stick in other ports it feels good to be on the winning side of things for once, especially when that's shenmue

Did they fix the UI being broken when playing in 4K? (3840x2160) ?
It was fine on launch but it broke on the first beta.

Good.

Btw it seems like Masterchan's widescreen patch still works on Shenmue 2 but not in Shenmue 1. Bizzare.

Also bloom doesn't reactive anymore. Yay

Looks like they fixed the issues with missing geometry and textures... Does that include those that are caused by some Intel HD Graphics chipsets?

OK, but what about the muddy music in Shenmue 2 from too much sustain? That to me is a much more important audio issue than "crackling" (whatever that means)

Ok so this is an odd one. I'm using input mapper to use a DS4 to play Shenmue 2. When I press the Dpad, or use the analog sticks the button prompts now change to DS4 prompts. But when I use the face buttons, or triggers they change back to Xbox prompts. This is only present for me with the v2 patch.

Hmm interesting. What happens when you dont use any 3rd party programs while the ds4 is connected? Atleast with Yakuza 0 thats how the DS4 controllers works, without any programs. Button icons and all. Maybe the new beta patch added native DS4 support or is it a glitch?

Still no native DS4 input unfortunately

I'm getting this behavior too. Hopefully they're working on DS4 support.

I thought they fixed the sustained notes in the first patch that just went public, no? I haven't made it to S2 but heard this was the case on Steam.

It's possible, but I was checking for a while and literally every playthrough of Shenmue 2 I've seen on YouTube has this problem. It affects the opening cutscene, so it's incredibly easy to spot. It's been a few days since I last checked, though - I'll look into it more.

I should have made it clearer up-front that I haven't played the game, my bad.

EDIT: I've looked into it, and I'm pretty sure it's still the same. If you listen, even the Dreamcast version had almost no sustain in the opening cutscene, and the HD remake has a lot. Or check out the music that plays when Ryo sees the arm wrestlers for the first time. Not good.

Of course, it could just be that none of the videos I've seen are using the patch. It was in beta until this one came out, and this one just came out today. Who knows.

If it wasn't almost 4am I would download the new patch and give it a try. But yes, this is my only real issue that irritates me. Not to open the while debate about every miniscule detail v bug that exists, playing both games on PC and console, the sustain issue was the only one that made me grit my teeth.

The absolute worst was the Stand Qtr. In Shenmue 2, during the day. In some places, it actually sounded good, like a weird new remix in some ways. But, when at this point in the game, I struggled with listening to it. If that's resolved, then I myself personally am over the moon.

Actually no, sorry, 2 more very small changes: get rid of down on the left analogue stick acting as a brake function in Hang On, and also get rid of the snap to center function in Space Harrier. Then I am golden.

In fact feck it, I need to know now....

Edit: ok so good news and bad news. Hang On issue had been fixed, as well as the snap to center in Space Harrier, but the controls for Space Harrier still are inverted with no way to switch them as of yet.

The audio in Shenmue 2 seems to have been fixed. Not completely I suspect, but as close to the original as it can be which is awesome. The crushed blacks in Shenmue 1 seem to have been fixed, but in Shenmue 2 are still present. Start a new game and go into the shadow of where the fortune teller sits, or any building shadow cast to see what I mean.

Still, steps in the right direction.
