No not the guy who used to post at the Dojo.

Another beloved sitcom is plotting a possible return. I have learned that Frasier star and executive producer Kelsey Grammer is fielding interest to put together a new Frasier series.

Unlike the slew of recent revivals of comedy series with the original cast and original creative auspices, including Will & Grace, Roseanne and Murphy Brown, I hear that Frasier is envisioned as a reboot, likely set in a new city, with the title character, played by Grammer, as a possible link to the Emmy-winning 1993 series.

I love me some Fraiser, it'll be hard to be anywhere near as good as the original but even if it's close it would blow away most sitcoms of the last 10 odd years.

I can honestly say I haven't really enjoyed a new sitcom since Frasier ended in the early 2000s. I've seen some, gotten some chuckles, but pretty much all "laugh track" comedies I've seen since then have completely and utterly failed to get me invested in the characters themselves. More often than not, the shows are actually a bit on the cringe-inducing side, with the laugh tracks seeming less like natural audience reactions to genuinely funny jokes, and more like awkward reminders that you're supposed to be laughing. It's all pretty bad.

But Frasier was excellent. Kind of odd to say this, but looking at its entire series as a whole, it stands as a bit of a masterpiece of long-run television comedy.
Not sure if a new series can live up to it; gotta say, David Hyde Pierce was a damn near essential ingredient to Frasier's excellence, so if he's not involved I can't immediately get excited or anything.
But I'll keep an eye on it. Interesting news either way.

^ Yes, I agree; it is indeed a masterpiece of the form. Very clever writing and actually interesting characterizations/development throughout. It would be tough without John Mahoney, but I could see a post-finale followup of an elderly Frasier & his brother being made into something meaningful.

The only one I can think off the top of my head that I've enjoyed since the 2000's is How I Met Your Mother but that certainly didn't hold a candle to some of the greats. The 90's was certainly the golden age for that type of show with shows like Frasier, Seinfeld, Friends and Home Improvement.

One thing Fraiser did better then anyone was having 'mix-ups'. One of the hardest I've ever laughed is when a stripper and nanny are both being interviewed by Frasier and Daphne but Fraiser ends up interviewing the Nanny and Daphne the stripper.

Exactly! lol, or when Frasier delivers a speech thinking he's defending his Dad's right to keep a dog, but the apartment association is actually censuring him for skinny dipping. Great stuff.

How I Met Your Mother was better than Friends. That's right, I said it.

It’s the best show to fall asleep to. That’s not a bad thing at all. I love it. Something is very soothing about it.

Mate this is awesome. I used to binge watch this show on Paramount Comedy Channel. I wonder if it will be stylistically the same... the laugh track sitcom is a dated format now but I can't imagine Frasier without it.

I love Frasier, but I'm kinda cringing at the idea of a reboot or whatever the fuck you want to call it. Seems like the sort of thing best left alone.
One of the best quotes that I'm dying to have an excuse to use in real life is this:
'I have people skills! But these boobs and nincompoops are too stupid to see it!' :ROFLMAO:

This pretty much. I feel like I have out grown sitcoms all together, if a laugh track is present thats all I need to know to not be interested, my sense of humor is fine with out your help laugh track. It just feels like im in an archaic 1950s time bubble when I hear a laugh track present, its like why isnt this in black and white or on a CRT? THAT feels like the era of the laugh track to me, I Love Lucy was over 60 years ago for christs sake. Also I am ashamed of nerds that have gotten hooked on Big Bang Theory for similar reasons, that show is so cringe I have no idea how any one watches it, yet so many people are shocked I dont love it, ew.

Laugh tracks can enhance the experience for a lot of people. It's been proven that laughing whilst hearing others laughing makes you enjoy the joke more. Obviously this isn't the case in every instance or with every single person, but it also fits a style.

As for the Big Bang Theory though, I wouldn't say it's good, but it's a fucking hell of a lot better than shite like Everybody Loves Raymond.

Never got into Fraiser but the few episodes I saw seemed good... I was a bit too young to really enjoy from what I remember. Definitely will watch a lot especially if they're rebooting...

I utterly adore Frasier! I've probably watched individual episodes dozens of times. It's my go-to on Netflix.

I'm interested in the reboot or whatever it is. Do I think it can compare, especially with John Mahoney gone? Maybe, maybe not, but I'm still stoked at the prospect of more Frasier!
